Everyone gave a lot of good advice. My thought would be to try not to look directly into the headlights of the vehicles on the other side of the road .. it can effect your night vision.

Here in Nebraska, deer are the No. 1 nighttime riding concern.

Add lights or replace stock with brighter bulbs.
Slow down or get off back roads and onto superslab.

I have added better bulbs in my front lamps to increase light output, wear yellow lens in steed of clears and have added reflective decals to my bike.

The biggest thing other than the deer is to make sure whatever eye protection you are using is clean.

I always forget to clean my helmet visor, and windshield. When one of them cages that never turns its high beams off comes your way, you can't see a damn thing but the light up dust.

I like night riding. Its very calming to me.

I like riding at night, it gives me an oppertunity to use my LED Lights. I have a good ground effect so I should be seen. It's cooler too.

When stopped or slowing down, flash your break lights. I sometimes do this in the day as well.
