Just what the mark-up is on H-D parts when they can offer 25% off. I just bought the Screamin' EagleŽ Hydraulic Cam Chain Tensioner Plate Upgrade Kit and all the extra necessary parts to go with it (listed on the plate installation sheet) plus a few extras for $500.00. I saved (did I really?) about $166.00.
The local dealer had 30% off on Wednesday afternoon and this morning. I spent $1300, but it is better than paying full price. (I never do that!) I was really surprised that there were very few people at the dealership. The sale was supposed to start at noon. I picked out my stuff and had them add the stuff behind the counter and I was out before noon. Mirrors and some items were special order, but still 30% off.

That is excellent. My local dealer has that MVP program which is BS. I went shopping at a dealer a little further away. It was worth it.
Chicago HD has 20% off everything all the time. Local dealer is msrp on everything. Has some holiday sales going on now but I just order from Chicago HD whenever I want something. I buy tires and maintainence items from the local dealer so everything is on their records as far as oil changes. Parts and motorclothes get ordered online.

Markup on factory parts usually runs 200%-1,000% and more, depending on the factory of course. (How else does a pair of MOCO $15 wheel bearings get up to the $150 I've read quoted here?)
True story: Called a factory to order a needle thrust bearing (AKA - sun bearing) for a piece of heavy equipment I operated and was quoted $322.95 + $11 ea. for the races. Needless to say I was astounded. I then went down to one of the local bearing suppliers and purchased the identical bearing (same brand, etc.) for $23.95 +tax races and all. This bearing was even made by a subsidiary of the equipment manufacturer.
There's big bucks in parts, for sure.
