Been doing the research for awhile and went down to the dealer and bit the bullet today. Went with the 103 and port/polish,255, high compression jugs and manual CRs. Thought if i'm going to do it lets go in and make it right. Asked him about the se compansator said not needed bike has 5k on it, thoughts on this ?
Get the compensator. If nothing else, it will help cushion your crank from the extra torque you will have. The SE Compensator is a great addition to you motor. My bike even seems to ride smoother after installing one.
Dont know if your still checking but I went from 96ci to a 103ci on my 07 fatboy. I now have a 2010 road king. Anyway, I have my HD dealer do a 103ci from Headquaters. The results were impressive to me at least. I have the dyno sheet but will not post it. I will just tell you what I got. I got 106hp and 115tq. The difference was very noticeable.
Would I do it again? Yes if I had the money. Cost about $3200.00 I know, allot of money. But if you got it , so what. That was in 2008. Now I dont so much have the extra bucks. If I did anything I would probably just do the cams. As it stands, I am selling my bike. Unfortunate but have to take care of my aging parents. They come first.
Not for me.Once went from 80ci to 93ci,it was great for a very short time.Next move was to 124" that was a real treat until I rode something much larger.Just my opinion, and we all have our own specific needs.Good luck finding yours, don't let anyone intimidate you,and be proud of your choices.Never forget! Let Those who Ride Decide! It does include your choice in transportation.
I am having a 103" build done and have spent countless hours in research. Finally going to pull the trigger with what I think will be what I am looking for. Emphasize "I" because everyone has their own opinion of how much they are willing to spend and do for the results they are looking for. Only you will ever know if it's worth it.

With proper head work, cam(s) and making the bike breathe right, you'd be surprised at what that 96" will yield, my mechanic has an 80" Evo bored .030 over (out of necessity) that he put together, put a cam in and some head work and it's pushing 90 HP (Dyno Std) He says 1 - 1.5 times CI in hp, isn't an unreasonable expectation for a PROPERLY tuned motor that can breathe right. But hell it all costs money, just depends which direction you want to throw it.
My bike is used for touring and my main transport most times. I told the tuner I wanted torque and endurance. Also fuel mileage is somewhat of an issue. Left the compression ratio alone. I have no issues starting hot or cold. I think most of the hardstart issues are compression and or timing related. Just my personal thoughts and experience.
