considering having a 103 upgrade done by Rossmeyer Harely in Daytona. Any opinions on their work...good or not?

Sorry if I jumped in on the tail end of this post ( not reading all ) but after making a cam choice ( 90% sure atm ) I had the same question as the op. I was thinking of going with a 96 with the wood tw6-6 because it was getting peak dyno numbers close to the 103 255 builds. I decided to investigate this further and this is what I noticed. The Peak tourque with the tw6-6 is close to a 103 tw6-6 ( same cam ,same dyno). My buddie ( Mr. Jim Beam ) was asking me why would anyone want to go 103 $ wise. After thinking about it I noticed the tourqe curve on the graph for the 103. I noticed that 96 Peak tourque is very close to the 103 but the 103 didnt fall below 100 flbs of tourque until 4900 rpm where as the 96 fell below 100 flbs at 3800 rpm. ( big Diff and I think this would be the butt dyno diff )
These numbers are Fuelmoto's with same exhaust setup same dyno. I tried to paste in the two graphs results side by side so everyone could see but could not. If you find the graphs on his site print screen and paste in excel ( 96 and 103 build ), scale the graphs to match side by side and you will see what I am talking about. I can't say what the diff would be with the 255 cam but looking at the graphs it appears the 103 may be worth it when using the tw6-6 cam. It may be the same for the 255s.

Btw Mr. Jim is now telling me to go 103 or you will be back next year for a bore and another $400 tune. Good thing I need all this power for safety reasons... Damn cagers

Increasing displacement is the simplest and most effective to make more power at a given rpm. If you increase the displacement of your motor by 8 percent, you'll make 8 percent more power at the mid rpm range- right where you ride your bike.

If you increase compression, you'll make the motor more efficient. More compression at the point of ignition will force the piston down with more force, making more power at the crank.

A number of forum members have cammed up thier 96" motors. There's nothing wrong with that. It can be one of the cheapest ways to get a little more power out of your motor, if done right. A set of low mile se-255 take-outs can be had for not much more than 100 bucks if you're lucky. If you do it yourself, you could swap cams for less than 200 bucks. You can't increase displacement that cheaply.

What you really need to do is increase your displacement, go to 10.5/1 pistons (install compression releases), and pick a proper cam.

Some loser here named Damascus once posted that he would have been just as happy with the 96 as he/I am with the 103 on my 09RKPolice.

Now that I'm used to the little extra vibes from the 103, I can't imagine a smaller motor with less HP on the highway.

And to be a complete hypocrite ... I'm now wondering how big of a motor I can stuff into the frame.

Go with the 103.

What are most people paying for the 103 with cams from their dealer? I got a quote for $1995 with SE compensator (they say it is a winter special).

I would have to stumble upon this thread now! LOL! I just got the local HD Coupon on the mail for a 103" Upgrade Installed for $1495.00

I was seriously contemplating the upgrade, but I know that just the 103" Upgrade they offer is just the basic...would still need to buy cams, SE Heavy Breather, SERT, and then the Dyno tune as well.

Sure wish money grew on trees! LOL! I love this site, but hate it as well...always ends up biting me with the mods bug! ;o)

Cheers,

Schmidtty
