I bought an aftermarket one from the stealer. It has a cut out for the crank sensor(?).
I dont see why a regular one would not work on my '06 RG.There is clearence.

looks like a pain to ratchet the filter off though. the harley tool works well. expand it fully to put over the filter and it clears the sensor easily and you can open and close the tool to turn the filter quickly.

You can get that same tool at an auto parts store for half the price.

I personally use a 'spider' style. Works perferctly on every size I have ever come across.

I bought one to try out.....doesn't work as well as the one I've got which slips on the end of the filter and has a socket on the end....works great!

I use the K&N filter with the nut on the end. To catch the oil when the filter comes off I use a 1 litre water bottle with the bottom cut off. Slip the bottle over the filter, insert your socket with extender and spin the whole thing off no muss no fuss....graydog

Long time back my father-in-law who is a master mechanic turned me onto the kind of oil filter wrench that is a square piece of tubing that has a loop of seat belt type material fastened to the end . you slip the loop over the filter and wind the tubing which a 1/2" drive rachet fits into and as you turn it tightens the grip.
Before this I had several different kinds of oil filter wrenches nothing works like this does.

Graydog, I like your idea. How do you like the K&N compared to the Harley filter? Other than the nut is the inside performance better?
