I rent a 2008 ultra and i had it off and on and i hated it when it was off. I noticed that i couldn't lite a doobie when it was off the ride and lighted it fine with it on. Thumbs up for it.
I think its worth the $12 I paid for the black one.
I rode 5000 miles without one at first, then I installed mine and found that it pushes the uncomfortable turbulent air up about 10 to 15 mph before it gets uncomfortable again. It snot a big noticeable difference, but it was the difference I was looking for. I was getting the uncomfortable buffeting between 65 and 75 mph, which is where I like to ride. Now I get it around 80 mph which is fine for my riding. The only time it get uncomfortable now is when I cruise into a stiff headwind.
Also, you might consider black for your color scheme which is a lot cheaper. The black looks good on my Vivid Black, but you likely have to order it because the black one can only be found in the Road Glide parts list.
I can see where the engine guard mounted lights would be a good solution because the that area where most of the turbulent air is coming from. The fork baffle rams the air from the forks into the air going over the engine guard and pushes it away from the tank a little bit. But as you go faster, the air over the engine guard eventually overcomes the fork baffle air and you get the problem again. But you have to get to at about 80mph to feel the problem again. I ride between 75 and 80 comfortable now.
I also understand the folks who feel it most are the full face helmet guys, which is what I wear. There are apparently a few new FF Helmets that come closer to the chin and don't have as server a problem.
I have a Road King and put both the baffle that goes in between the forks and the fork speaks that go on the outside of the fork. The combination made a big difference, although I don't know if they equally contributed. I suspect the outer spears did the most, but didn't do a control test with just one at a time. On an ultra, I don't know if you can use / would need the outer baffles though.
