I agree with you, if you can buy for MSRP, however the '06 two-tone MSRP was 19645.00. Up until about two months ago the average sale price on them out here was 25k, that meant 28k easy with taxes and addons. The 07's are being hauked at 28k right now, and I personally know of two that have already been sold for 30k at the local dealer. At least in this area they are gonna rape people as much as they can. You are right, if it truly were a difference of 500.00 bucks I might have waited.

Right now, I am having fun, and know I got a great deal.

Besides that, has anyone actually ridden one? Until I hear different, my assumption is that the new engine and tranny probably makes up for EPA throttling and real world performance is gonna be close to that of an '06 with a few modifications. While we are on the subject; the rumor is that after market mods may adversley affect the warranty and other issues. Anybody have any real intel on this?

Harry back...the two tone '06 ultra had a msrp of $20,645 vs. '07 at $21,135. That is only a $490 increase and you get a 96' with 6 speed. Plus the auto primary chain tensioner, starter bolted directly to inner primary and redesigned hydraulic cam chain tensioners, increased oil output, etc. I don't expect anybody who just bought an '06 to admit they messed up but it sure sounds like a lot of people are trying to justify the great deals they got. Here in Western New York all the dealers sell at msrp so getting jacked is not an issue. I love my '05 EGC with 31,000 miles but if my dealer gives my a decent trade...bye bye '05...hello '07.

Not really sold on that cruise drive tranny. 96" will be tougher and more $$$ to modify, so I've been told. Gonna hang on to the 06 SG, hit start & she's ready to rumble.

Guess its just my destiny - bought a 98 Road King Classic - great bike - next year Harley comes out with the Twin Cam - all I hear is that the EVO is dead and I should trade... Well kept the Road King for 8 years, built it the way I wanted and loved it - recently got the bug for a new bike - heard about the potential changes but also knew if I waited to long into the summer and fall, resale of my bike would most likely suffer - bought a 06 Ultra - sold my Road KIng for close to what I had paid for it (not including the up grades...) and out comes the new Harley engine and transmission...

anyway - already making changes to the Ultra, runs great, very comfortable, and reliable - would the 07 changes have been nice - sure, but I am happy with the way things have turned out and will most likely keep this one for quite a awhile.

Probably buy my next one the year before Harley comes out with their next great offering.....

A quick look shows that MSRP went up across the model lines $3-500, not bad considering the extra cubes and new tranny. But the listed shipping price also went up, the security system also jumped up as well, along with the price of the spoke wheel upgrade. So depending on the specific model and options, the '07s definitely padded an already premium price tag quite a bit more than normal year to year changes. Now if your dealer was trying to get even close to full boat for an '06, then the '07 was clearly the way to go. But when you're talking $3-4000 difference, that's hard to pass up in my book.

I'm done buying new bikes. I've had nothing but Harley's for the last 20 some odd years, starting with an Ironhead Sporty, and I just can't see myself going beyond my '06 RK Classic.

I have a buddy with a Shovelhead bagger. While we were in Iraq and everyone was ordering their '06's he just shrugged and said, Why buy a new one when I like mine just fine? It's 26 years old and runs like a top. And it looks good, too.

The only reason I got my RKC was that my FXST was loud, fast and obnoxious and I wanted a RK. It'll suit me fine for the rest of my riding days I think, no matter what. And one day, 26 years down the road when I'm extremely old and white-haired and I roll up on a "classic" Classic air-cooled TC88, the young kids will crowd around and oooh and aaaawwe.

Greetings,

I actually rode a 07 Ultra Classic yesterday.
My opinion:

Plus;
Nice smooth ride, transmission shifted very smooth, (approx. 2700 Rpm's @ 70 MPH).

Negative;
Engine did not seem to have a whole lot of power, exhaust was pretty quite.

Caveats:

I ride a pretty hot 95" 02 FLHR, so I am somewhat spoiled. Also bike was pure stock, dealer said they do not have any type of downloads yet for upgrades.
Of course exhaust sound is so subjective, but it was quite, engine noise rivaled exhaust.

Overall nice bike, good ride, but I guess to get an apple to apple comparision someone would need to ride a stock 06 then the 07 and see for yourself.

Regards
