Glad you like it, it was a nice improvement and was trouble free for 40k miles that I had it in the bike.

Came across this old post. I am thinking of installing the DD7 in my 2010. Just wondering what other's experience has been with this tranny.

I have an '05 RG with the S.E. six speed OD transmission and it has perfect gearing, the same final drive as the newer bikes (2950 RPM @ 80 MPH) but a very usable first gear for low speed maneuvering and riding in traffic.
The 6 speed in my '09 as you know has a direct drive 6th and first is too high which seems to be the reason for going with the Baker DD7.
My point is I'm kind of on board with how many gears do we need to be shifting? And think that another option would be to gear the primary down and add an OD trany thus a usable first and a reasonable cruising RPM.
I still don't understand why the Motor Company didn't do it that way other than maybe cost. In which case, cheap SOBs.

The reasons I have for changing are based on the stock running the bearings out at the 8,000 mile mark. So, reason number 1: I suspect the quality of the HD Transmission. 2: is the 1st gear being pretty tall. (Whenever I am stuck in freeway during a rush hour I am having to run the clutch way too much.) 3: The DD7 is reported to be much smoother. (Is it?)

So, I'm looking for some input from someone that actually uses this tranny. The Baker 6 speed doesn't seem to fit the 2010. I don't care about more gears but I do want the above mentioned characteristics in a tranny.

I would appreciate any reaction to the idea of switching out. 3500 dollars is a lot to spend unless it lives up to what I am looking for.

Thanks!

Good lord. We don't even need 6 speeds for the Big Twin, much less 7 ! lol Is an 8 coming or a 10 !?

I like the tall top gear on the highway but chopping up the power curve that many times robs you of the feel of the motor's torque.

I rarely use 6 and only when I a doing interstate speeds. I tend to stay in 5 or 4 and not lug the engine.

If I had the extra cash I would have one in a heartbeat. Better 1-6 ratios with the same top gear revs as stock, only downside is the cost.

They let you test ride them at Bike week, so I can not tell you how long it will last, but I can tell you it's built better and feels a lot better than OEM, if my tranny ever decides to let loose, the Baker is a no brainer.
