I have a 08 SG with stock seat. I am 5'-8" tall, would 14" apes be to tall ? My brother has 14" apes on his 08 Fatboy and they feel great. I am wondering if a SG would be more or less the same reach etc.
Why anyone puts apehangers on anything except perhaps a raked out chopper is beyond me. To me they look ridiculous (and handle even worse) on baggers. Just another short lived fad.

Really, You see this is what makes the world go round, Different Strokes for Different Folks. I only agree with one thing you said, The Look. I am not a big fan of Apes on any bike... but that being said, I don't care if they had to be 4' tall to make me more comfortable I would have them on my motorcycle.
The OP did not ask you or anyone else what they thought they looked like, he wanted to know if 14" were going to be to tall. So lets try and help him out shall we.
Merry Christmas.

No problem I get a little excited before I have my coffee sometimes too. LOL
This is my first experience with apes. Always loved the look but never road a bike with 'em before. I can tell you I will never go back to a different bar. Apes are unbelievable comfortable. Do knock it till you try it is all I can say.

Reason: ad
Did I start something ? I am not even going to mention that I am putting on a hyper charger. Opps ....now I have done it again. I know I am going to take heat for this. lol
Sorry I like them two!!!
Mtn
im interested in some bagger pics with apes.....been thinking of putting them on my bike too. all i hear is how it gets rid of that pain inbetween your shoulder blades and neck. Would think your arms would get tired from having them in the air, but....
Would think your arms would get tired from having them in the air, but....
Just the opposite.
Having your arms level or up feels natural. It allows your back to straighten out and relieves all the pressure points between your shoulders and upper rib cage.
As far as your heart having to work harder to get blood up. Your head is above your shoulders and for most people blood to their brain isn't an issue. Notice I said most people. 16" apes are not significantly higher than the top of my trucks steering wheel.
Wind force is another thing non ape riders like to throw out. I always feel like when I am hunched over to reach bars the "cupping" of my upper body greatly increases wind force. When I sit up straight, my arms are bearing more of the force, rather than my lower back.
Never fails when the subject of apes comes up that the urban legends get repeated again. (not directed at you richnakol)

Gotta call BS on this post. You put on what ever you damn well please for whatever reason you damn well want to. Nobody asked how they looked. Why anyone would reply to a " Which Apes Should I Get" thread talkin bullshit about how stupid Apes look is beside me. Just sayin.....
