I'm interested in buying a HD riders backrest but am not sure if I should get the adjustable one or the standard one. Any feedback to help me make a decision would be appreciated. Thanks
Go with the adjustable. More flexiblity for your comfort. Only issue may be if you want to run the factory Harley Heatshields. According to the parts catalog you can not run the adjustable with the heatshields, but have read that people have made it work.
My RK had a Mustang seat with adj. backrest when I bought it. Road the bike with and without and found that once I got it adj. for me that the bike was way more comf. on longer rides.

That was on the 08s. (old frame)
There isn't enough room under there for your fingers to put the screws in, with the shields on and the switch bracket.
On the 09s and 10 the adjustable will work just fine. (new frame)
In fact I recommend the covers to cover up the switch bracket.
I have the adjustable one and do change it going down the road, to get a different position for my sad aching back from time to time.
FWIW I would think save your $ go buy the non-adjustable one and try it out. If you find it is not comfortable return it and get the adjustable one. I have the non-adjustable on my SG and had the same on my RK before that. Very comfortable for me.
The only time I think the adjustable would be nice to have is on the real long trips. I know that when I'm driving in my truck for 6+ hours I start changing my seat position around. Since I do not ride like that it's not worth the extra $ to me.
I to have been wondering about the rider back rest since hurting my lower back. I always like positive feed back but in this case does anyone not like it or use it anymore and why?
Don't mean to hijack the thread but since someone mentioned it, I thought I'd chime in. I had back surgery last spring for a herniated L5/S1 and am still not 100% but I did buy a backrest and it makes life MUCH better.
