Default stock exhaust

Hi all
Just joined this forum(great place). Also purchased a new electra glide a week ago. Fine machine and a real value for the money. Used to own a Jap bike and did extensive mods to it. SO I have a question for you all.

I noticed the end of the muffler has a tiny (1/4") exit hole.

Has anyone drilled this out and made it larger??

seems like to sound level would increase and still have most of the stock system

I would recommend getting slips ons or replacing the entire exhaust. There are a few on the board that will jump in here and start yelling about Rhineharts...very nice.

Another more affordable option is SE II slip ons...gives you the sound you want while still keeping the back pressure you need.

Thank you for the introduction Mac,

RINEHART TRUE DUALS

I realize after such a substantial purchase that money might be tight ($609.00 shipped from Eastern Performance Cycle) so your wife may have to get a second job.

P.S Mike must be asleep or he would have already jumped on this

Pilot is right. I wouldn't start drilling on your stock mufflers - there are much better options.

Look into either Screamin' Eagle II slip ons (a bit over $300) or Reinhart true duals ($600-800, depending on where you buy them). There are a ton of other slip-ons and pipes (including Vance and Hines) that are good, but these seem to be the more popular choices around here.

While you are at it, go with the Stage 1 air cleaner upgrade and either the EFI download or carb re-jetting. You will be very happy with the sound and performance increase. I was.

That 1/4 in hole isn't really where the exhaust is coming through. If you look closely, it resembles a freeze plug in the exhaust. It is redirecting the exhaust into the perferated baffles to quiet the bike down.
My wifes 883 had the same thing. I literally knocked it out of the pipe with a smaller pipe, and a big hammer. It is louder, with a better sound, but quieter than any slip-on I've heard. Just right for her bike.
Now MY bike on the other hand (RKC), like yours has these as well, only there appears to be 2 in each muffler. I decided to put on a set of SEII slip-ons, as I knew that knocking out the plugs still wouldn't get the bike to the volume I was looking for.

Don't waste your time working on the stock mufflers and just go with a nice set of slip-ons. I went with the Vance and Hines Oval Slip-ons, they have the sound I wanted and the performance too. You can't go wrong with Vance and Hines.
