Painted Inner Fairing installed for $163!!
I had a run-in with gravity last summer. Gravity won. Anyway, the clutch lever took a bite out of my inner fairing and the inner cap piece was damaged also, apparently neither are repairable. I paid to upgrade to the painted inners, being that they were being replaced anyway. The difference between stock and the painted, after a courtesy HOG discount from the dealer, was $163. When I dropped the bike off for the collision repair (it was still ridable, or so everyone thought) I asked them to check the shift mechanism, etc. It's been hard to locate neutral and I thought maybe the shaft was bent. Turns out the problem was in the trans. Long story short, the dealer was able to get a goodwill repair out of the factory. 2007 Ultra, about 25K, out of warranty, and they rebuilt my trans. I talked to the mechanic that was doing the trans rebuild and it sounds like the bearings were never installed properly from the factory. The dealer has had the bike for 5-6 weeks now, between the collision repair and the trans and is also going to comp me winter storage. Bottom line is that maybe the collision ultimately put me in the shop, which led to the trans issue, rather than a meltdown on the road, all at my expense later. Anyway, Merry Christmas to all my fellow touring riders!!!!

Sounds like a good story turned into a great story.
I'm glad they caught the trany issue before it left you stranded on the road.
FYI: You will love that painted inner fairing. They really set a bike off in my opinion and I had to buy mine too.
