Wow - some people find something to worry about even when they get a present.
And other people just try and point out something to consider when buying a used bike.
I'd be interested to hear from someone in the know if you can take a used bike to a dealer to have them verify actual miles from the bikes onboard computer. That might be something worth doing if a bikes miles seem unusually low. But also, there are a lot of legitimate very low miles bikes out there.

That's the question that needs to be answered. If that is possible it should also discourage the dishonest.
You know, living in California I sometimes want a speedo gauge that has the state required 7,500 miles in order to bring an out of state bike into CA. I've seen so many bikes I would have bought if only they had enough miles on them to bring them in...
I'll have to keep that in mind that I could buy a speedo and have the required miles put on it when buying a low milage bike.... but then I have to calculate the cost of a speedo into the price of the bike which may make a sweet deal not so sweet....
There are some really great deals on eBay, and before I bought my 2010, that's where I thought I would buy a 2008 or 2009. But, I wanted a bike with really low miles, so that became the problem in buying and then trying to register the bike. (Must have 7,500 miles, or more, or meet Calif. emissons.)
In the end, I decided it was best to just buy a California upfront, but it came at a lot higher cost.
