Your right Mike. Exactly where im coming from. I spent more time in the goldwing forum before buying a ultra. They talk a lot more about long trips .Very little complaining. No performace up grade needed. very high millage with out major problems.
I have a question for ya.
I know the Goldwing is a hell of a bike (but I would never own one) but what made you "not buy a Goldwing"? Just curious.
I have had 3 GWs and bought my first Harley late last year so I did not get much riding in but realy like my uc and realy looking forward to a lot of miles. the GWs were nice and no complaints other than big but GLAD to have my UC now
The Goldwing is nice and does have plenty of horse but you can't compare the 2 other the being baggers. You maybe should have done the homework before buying.
The last thing I'd do is buy a HD then join a HD forum and state I made a mistake.
Good luck.
PS Sell it and buy a Vision. At least it has a V twin.
When i found out GW production was going from Ohio to Japan. Thats when i decided on the ultra. Before that it was a tough decision between the two. As far as the oil cooler goes i was thinking of geting the one that comes with a fan. if the stage one up grade isn't enough when in stop and go traffic.

When the fan comes on, it blows hot air on you. Ask some of the wingers with water cooled tupperware chit. They might say they don't spend money on upgrades, but the ones who have v-twins spend a lot trying to make them sound like a Harley. NEVER HAPPEN!!!
The reason people are like they are on HD Forums is because most Harley people are gear heads. I love fiddling with my bike. Its my main pass time.
This is true. I love playing with my Harley. Its fun.
But no one can say the Goldwing is not a quality bike. You dont have to fool with them. You can beat the **** out of them and they just keep running.
Also, the weld cracks were on the older 02-03 models and that was with the bikes being welded/assembled here in the USA. So who is to blame?
Both are great bikes for differant reasons. I do agree the Harley has more soul. But when I ride 1000+ miles to Florida, I want comfort and reliability so I jump on the GW

This is not true
The fans come on only when you are stopped, and blows straight out the front of the bike. When you start moving the fans shut down.
