I owned a GL1800 Wing and TC96 Ultra at the same time. Finally sold the Wing, kept the Ultra.

With respect to your two questions, both can be addressed to some extent with an aftermarket tuner but you should already know this.

As some have already suggested, I think you should do some serious soul searching...it doesn't sound like a Harley is right for you. In fact, maybe motorcycles are just not for you period.

Good luck!

You gotta want a Harley...You know you see it on tee shirts..."If i have to explain, you wouldn't understand" i didn't know what this meant until i bought one. I don't compare it to a GW because there is no comparison...they are 2 different bikes. BUT...look at how much every other manufacturer is trying to make a bike like Harley... Honda Fury, Yamaha Raider , Kawasaki Voyager, Victory etc....

Did you pose the same question in the GW forum? Sell the Ultra and buy yourself a wing and be done with it.

Back in '94 when new Harleys were hard to come by. I had sold mine and got stuck without a ride.
I bought a new Goldwing Aspencade for $10,500.....best deal I could find on a touring bike.
The Goldwing was way too top heavy for me, floated in and out of the lane.
I ended up selling it when my '95 Ultra showed up.

Your new to riding, wanted a GW, and settled for an Ultra?? Sounds like youll probably stay 'new to riding'. If you bought the GW you could customize it with some fancy cup holders, or possibly some more chromed plastic. A couple hundred and youd be finished with it. The HD on the other hand, is just the opposite. The price of admission is 20grand. It will take another 3-10grand to transform the bike to suit an individuals taste, which includes heat and power issues, chrome du-dads, and a tee-shirt collection. You have to pay to play, welcome to the family!

Wrong choice. Sell the Ultra. If anything, buy a Rebel. It's perect for new riders who make their first posts on an HD forum about whether they should have bought a Goldwing.

Enjoy your vacation. School starts again on Monday.

My wife and I were in the market for a used Touring bike; I currently have a Nightrain but 2-up long distance riding was a pain in the ***. I looked at the Goldwings, but every part on them seemed cumbersome to get to (I do my own wrenching). Thus we settled on a 2005 Ultra and I still got to keep my Train.
