OK I found it.I am in process of fixing it.I folded up a piece of sheet metal into a T shape and placed it over the Radio bracket.I would think the fairing was supposed to rest on the hooks under the radio but evidently does not.Anyway I need to figure out how to secure the T's to the radio bracket.I would drill through and put a bolt and nut but I dont want metal chips all in there.Any ideas?

Mine is resting on the hooks and it is still digging into the fairing from the radio mounts. Another guy posted that there should be rubber trim pieces on the hooks. I guess that would lift it up some and maybe stop the contact from the radio mounts. That trim piece part number is 11489. It didnt come on my hooks. I just went to pep boys and got some vacum hose and slit it down the middle and glued it over the radio mounts. Fits good and should cushion the contact from the fairing to those mounts. I'm going to the dealer tomorrow and try to order those trim pieces that are supposed to be covering the hooks.

I drilled it and put a cotter pin in them. That SHOULD be the end of that threat.Too bad I didn't have some good speakers on hand.

Default Contact the CS at MOCO

I don't know about the rest of you guys but I am contacting customer service at the MOCO and I will be sending them the digital pics of the area that that is affected on my fairing. For the price we pay for these they should stand behind the product. Also if we just fix it on our own and not report it the engineers can't look into it and fix it right with a design change.

Another thing I'm curious about is if the different angle & mounting of the 2010 fairing makes the problem worse, better, or no effect at all. I plan on doing the 2010 mod to my 2009 RG and wonder what I should address while I'm in there.

Should be interesting.

Really, than all you have to worry about is the entire bracket breaking off.

Just went to Home Depot and purchased some plastic U molding. 10' piece for $3. Cut it to size and slipped it on. It's wider than the metal radio bracket edge so should stop the diggin in. We'll see.

Subscribing.

My 09 has 14.3k miles on it, and I change windshields all the time (have 4 different ones now), but I have never had the outer fairing off. I do clean really well under the windshield mounting area when I change them out since so much crap gets up in there. I'm pretty sure I would have noticed the damage, but who knows for sure.

Bikes in storage at the dealer now so this will have to wait a few weeks (or maybe months) since it's a screaming 8 degrees here today.

Ordering new speakers today, so I can do something else while I'm in there..........

Talking Aligning the Inner Fairing

I had the same problem with my outer fairing rubbing against the radio bracket. I found that if I aligned the bracket and inner fairing correctly the bracket wouldn't rub on the fairing anymore.

If you look right behind the speedo/tach nacelle you'll see two 3/8" or so holes in the inner fairing that probably aren't being used. There are two holes in the radio bracket inside the fairing that must line up perfectly with these two holes in the inner fairing.

The main fairing to frame bracket has four threaded posts in it that go through the inner fairing and then through the radio bracket and are held tight with four nuts. The fairing holes are slotted which allows the fairing to slide up and down for alignment. If you loosen up the four nuts and slide the fairing so that the two previously mentioned upper holes line up and then retighten the four nuts the fairing and radio bracket will be aligned correctly and the radio bracket will probably no longer interfere with the fairing.

What I did was to buy two chrome screws and lock nuts at OSH so I could permanently attach the radio bracket and fairing in the proper position. No more problems
