Default SERT Canned maps?

I have a question about the SERT. I am limited on cash and can't do all the mods I want to in one shot. ATM I am on a stock 09 SG coming off of a 04 92 cu Victory Vegas. I have no idea what the Vic's performance numbers were however going by the good ole butt dyno I don't think the stage one will have the same performace and not sure the stage 2 will simply because the SG is a heavier bike with alot more wind resistance. At the moment I am looking at some slip ons and possibly the PCV with A/C. I have some warranty concerns about the PCV and was considering the SERT.

My question is because I know I will do more than a stage one in the future is a dyno required for the SERT or is there a canned map for the stage 1 that I can use until I can go 103 or 107 stage 2? The dyno cost for the SERT is weighing in on my options for the stage one tune. From what I have been reading the ECM flash for a stage one is not worth wasting your $$$.$$ Should I skip stage one all together?

Thanks for any info.

Congratulations on the new bike and also looking for a tuning device as one of your first upgrades. I will mention another tuning device to consider. TTS. IMHO it is the most capable tuning device for your bike. If you take the time to read the directions you will be able to tune your bike close to what can be done on a dyno (with a capable operator). It will tune your bike from stock to any combination of parts down the road.

Happy New year Sath,
You do not need a dyno tune for a stage 1. You do not neccesarily need an ECU flash by the dealership either. The ECU will corrct itself in a short time. Your warranty may require you to have your ECU flashed by a dealership with the stage one. You do not need a dyno tune for a stage 2 either. You do need a download of some type for the stage 2 to run decent.

The SERT will have downloads for your build.

Having said all that; you can always benifit from dyno tuning any time.

The SERT software is a nice tool to have if you are doing stage modifications.

If you are looking for the most economical direction to go, save your money and build a stage 3 motor. In cases 8 out of 10 times, a stage 2 motor will give you margnal gains in torque and horse power and a loss in gas mileage. A stage 3 motor will usually yield a dramatic increase in torque and horsepower and no loss in gas mileage, after being tuned properly and in some cases, better gas mileage.

Just my personal opinion; don't buy SE heads of any kind. Get your stock heads ported by a professional. They will perform way better than any SE head out their and for less money.

When talking to my dealer this is what I was told.

$409 for Rush slip ons ( Think I'm going with Jackpots with the black tips )
$459 for SEST
$139 A/C
$120 labor
Approx $400 for a tune ( deal breaker for 96 stage 1)
Total was $1527 plus tax, around a grand would be acceptable to me to keep my warranty. The sales person did not say mention a canned map for the SEST to reduce the price. My dealer has not been forth coming with information on performance upgrades other than they will not work on a bike with a Power Commander and would not honor my warranty. I get the feeling they would take advantage of someone who doesn't know what they need.

Thanks for the info on the TTS but I think my dealer would take the same stance toward a tuning device other than a HD product. I am beginning to think Warranty is overated or I need to find another dealer.

SATH,
The dealership would love to sell you a race tuner and $400 dollars worth of dyno time. You do not need either one of those. The dealership (if they have any charactor to speak of) should flash your ECU for free with the labor cost of the installation of pipes and AC.

What's really sad, is installation can be done by anyone that knows how to read directions. It's very easy to do. But the engine warranty may be voided. It sucks.

Ps...Tell your dealership to give me a call and I will discuss what the word charactor means

If you open up the exhaust and air cleaner you need to at least flash the ECM.

That's one of the TTS's features. It will be able to download your stock ecm calibration and rewrite the number to your TTS map. The dealer will not be able to tell your bike has been remapped. Yes you should find another dealer.

If you can do the work yourself you can get everything you need cheaper if you look around the net. Chicage HD sells parts at 20% discount. Their tuner is around $367. There is a lot of independent after market dealers for the slipons and ac. I agree with the rest on staying away from that dealer. Good luck.
