Maybe someone can chime in......but i dont think going to a dealer to ask questions is such a good thing. You are wondering why, Ill tell you. I went to the dealer and asked a question about the oil pressure switch and they told me but then seemed to notice that I didnt buy it from them and made a notation in the computer about that. What was that about?
Yes sir you and a few others did. Tried to edit my post but was unsuccessful in doing so. Wasnt trying to offend anyone just trying to figure out what questions get you referred back to the service manual and which ones get answered. And I do agree that getting a service manual is necessary and also think if by having one i can help a brother then that is even better.
If you are serious at all about doing your own work, you need the SM.
You will still have plenty of questions after buying one, but at least the posters can take you serious.
Also, you can understand the responses to your questions better when referring to your service manual.
To swap out your inner primary based on information a guy at the HD shop told you in a brief conversation (and not having a SM in front of you) is kind of risky in my opinion.
When he gets himself in a jamb, are we supposed to hold his hand and walk him through it?
He really should have gotten the SM while he was there and I don't blame the guys for being offended that he "blew off" their suggestions. Maybe they'll "blow off" his next question.
This is the first place that I have come across that harley riders slam other harley riders. Since I have been riding I have never come across a stranger. Most folks are always willing to help. They want to show off their bike and tell about it. So I have only been riding a harley for a couple of years..... SO WHAT!!!!!! everyone had to start off somewhere and were beginners at some point. To those that helped me out thanks....... to those that mocked and made fun........ well..... I hope that you dont need help somewhere down the line. After I talked with the mechanic I can home and finished the removal of the stock inner primary cover and replaced it with a chrome one. The bike is now at the dealer getting a painted inner fairing and a stage one down load. No I didnt buy a service manual because they didnt have one in stock and I am headed back to Iraq for my 6th tour so I wont need one for awhile. I am a Green Beret. Hopefully there will be some sunny days when I return to put some more miles on the bike.
