Default luggage rack question

I have a EGC that I want to remove the tour-pak. Instead of buying the expensive detachable mounts, I was thinking of just removing the pak from the brace and attaching a luggage rack to the existing brace. Has anyone done this? If so any advise and pics would help.

You will have a few issues to deal with.
1. You will need to relocate you antenna by buying the HD part or one of the hidden ones that go in the fairing.
2. It will not be a quick conversion process since balancing the tour pak while starting the bolts isn't easy.
3. If you don't go with the hidden antenna, you will have to move the antenna every time you take the tour pak off or put it on.
4. You will need todo something with the tour pak harness. (coil it up and stash it in the left side cover)
On the plus side, I just went downstairs and looked at the stock tour pak bracket and I think it would serve as a luggage rack as is so you would not have to buy a rack.

Try it. There is nothing to loose. You can always buy the kit later and you might like it.

Dont forget that the license plate bracket will need to be modified as well.

If you keep the stock tour pak mounting assembly the Lp bracket is part of the bracket. No issue there.

Maybe look into a Motherwell rack?

Pretty cheap compared to HD's rack. It's not a quick detach, but then again it's about 1/3 the price.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the input. I might as well give it a try. Too $amn cold here to ride I was going to relocate the antenna anyway, so that shouldn't be an issue. I just want to see if I would miss the tour-pak before the investment into the detachable setup.

Ride Safe Everyone

I would be completely lost without my tour pac and would never take it off. My brother is just the opposite. He bought his extra for his RG and hardly uses it. Play around with it. You've got all winter.

Don't remove your Tour Pak cuz Detachable Tour Pak Kit cost $549.

Why waste the money and monkeying around by taking it off and so forth ?.

Put your money to a better use...Cam work, Chrome Bling or even better..Go on a vacation along with cherished memories.

Get docking kit, and latches from dealer. Build a rack to fit. Black rack is on wifes Sportster, other unfinished rack is on my FLHT.luggage rack question-img_f6.jpg
