Anybody ever leave Harley................
I've had 6 Honda's, 1 Kaw, and on second Yamadog.
Slowest bike was a Kaw KE250 enduro.
Fastest bike, 06 CBR1000RR.
Most miles in one year = Harley.

I've always liked Harley but never considered one because I was more interested in doing wheelies, jumpin' train tracks and goin' fast and not spending a lot of money.
Still like to go fast so I have an FZ1 in the garage too.
I'm with ya on that.....I have an FZ1 right beside the Harley for when I ride solo. I'm ONLY 49 years old, I need speed !!!
My Dad went to Vietnam in 66, told me if I behaved myself he'd buy me a motorcycle when he returned home..man I was the best, all I could dream of was that bike...he returned home and 2 weeks later I got my first real bike ( had a homemade mini bike) a 1967, brand new Honda 305 Scrambler...I was the cats a$$....16 and a new motorcycle....move along...married my high school sweetheart at 18...( still married 40 years this November) and a dad at 19...well we know how that goes..bike sold...I've had several over the years...Honda's, Suzuki's, Ossa ( trials bike) even worked for my local Suzuki dealer for a while. Raced Motocross local for a while...had a ball.
Finally in the late 70's I bought my first Harley, a 1982 FXSB, Sturgis model..Wow, this was too cool....I have jumped back and forth from Harley's to metric, not because of MOCO treating me bad, just times would get hard, sell the toys, get another that I could afford...you know the drill.
In 84 I landed my current job, Government.....been with since ( 26 years)...this has afforded me the chance to own 23 Harley's and several other bikes...everything from new Sporties to Ultras to a 57 Pan ( should have kept that one) to Goldwings etc....it's been a great ride.
I just bought my 2010 RG ( used from a board member) and have a 07 GW Trike in the garage....
Harley's are what I like best and fit me best...and at my age now I'll be staying with them. I would sell the GW trike if not for the wife, she loves the trike...I hate the way it sits...but gotta keep her happy too.
SO that's my MC ride....never know what the next one will be....last one ??? Probably a Ultra to ride off into the sunset....yeah right.
.
Here's a short one: Working on my buddies panhead and he was having problems with the magneto timing and I was trying to help him. Well this was my earlier days and while he had no experience, I had about one step more than he did. After a few beers and cussing trying to get it right, I lost it. Took a 12" crescent and starting beating the bike with it, before I knew it I had dented the tank, busted the headlight and a few other parts, snapping out of it to my buddie wrestling me down on the ground to cool me off. So now I got more problems than what we started with, go figure.
Well I ended up fixing his scoot and paying for my madness, cost me quite a few bucks. He is still my friend and we still ride together with plenty of laughs about that day. Oh by the way, he works on his own bike now and I learned to control my anger ( a little bit) when working on bikes.
My father got out of the Air Force in '66 and couldn't afford a Harley after having 2 children by then, so he waited and bought a Honda 400 Scrambler sometimes in the early '70's. He loved that bike, meanwhile his brother-in-law rode NOTHING but Harleys since the '50's so the ribbing was on. The running joke in the family for years was how my Uncle worked on his bikes more than he rode them but nothing could sway him from owning anything else. He's 70 now and STILL wouldn't ride anything but a Harley. It's as if some in that generation had a grudge against foreign made bikes but you didn't dare mention riding anything but a Harley in his presence.
My father hung up his helmet in 1975 when he went down in a wreck and a car ran over his helmet while his head was in it.
Well dad never did get around to being able to afford a Harley but he always has his eye on mine and is quick in a conversation to inform others his son has a Harley....LOL. He's almost 70 now and rides his Honda Shadow 1100 Spirit, albeit, with some difficulty since arthritis of the hips cause him much grief. If old "arther" wasn't such a game changer in his times he can spend riding, I'd buy him a Harley, but he refuses to accept the offer.
We've shared many amile together over the years, and no matter what the make of the scoot, you can't take those memories away.
Our bikes(me, my uncle, and dad) last weekend in North Texas.........frrrrreeeeeeeezing, but awesome trip!!

Yea, that's ICE on the windshields, seats, and bags....LOL!!

Hey, buy your dad a Tri Glide....if he'd let ya...Dads are like that though...
