so i needed a new clutch for the roadglide. went and got an s&s from the local indy. got the bike all stripped down. and after reading the instructions realized i was way in over my head. this morning go back to the indy. robbie says, get you bike off your lift i come by tonight pick it up and you can do the work in my shop. i show you what to do. i'm still in shock. ( looks like i'll be spending lots on money on the spechal tools you need. that i dont have.)

WoW that is cool.......Well just dont take advantage of him and he will help you forever...also if he does not charge you then make sure you take care of him. I do the same thing all the time. I have a few guys that come to me to help and i just tell them to bring the bike over and put it on the lift and i will show them. I also never charge but most of the guys take good care of me. They buy me stuff i want or need for my bike....one of the guys found a nice seat for a good price and bought it for me......it is cool...

me and my olady have a good relationship with our dealer they drop the labor rate for us all the time. i bought all my parts for my 103 build on ebay and they installed it for $500.00. my olady sells refurbished ipods so we gave everyone who was involed in my build a ipod for there bikes. we had a x-mas party and new years party they all came to eat and drink with there families. but we also bought 5 bikes from them in the last 2 years so might have helped on there service. all in all they are great bunch of guys. so we are loyal customers. just my 2 cents.

agreed. shops in socal are overpriced, rude / snobby, and often do half-assed work.

would LOVE for some by-the-book indy guy to offer me the OPs' scenario on some of the things I'd like to do!

I always thought dealerships could have workshops like Home Depot - sure it potentially reduces service revenue for them, but it would create great relationships with their (potential) customers, and improve the odds of someone bringing their bike in for the bigger stuff, and make people more likely to recommend them.
