Both my father and I changed out stock (Ultra Classic and RKC) for the MO a few days befor riding 4500 round trip from San Diego to Sturgis - 4500 miles. Loved them! Great performance (we went with true duals), great sound and no issues with the pitch. Not quite as loud as my son's Big Radius 2 into 2 on the Street Bob on the trip but quite a bit better than stock. Would do it again w/o question.

Has anyone removed the baffels and striped off the packing around the baffles?

If so how did they sound then?

I will also be adding a A/C and PC-V from Jamie at Fuel Moto once I decide on the slip-ons.

Thanks
I bought MOs because I heard them on an idling Ultra, and I thought they would be a good compromise between stock and very loud pipes. My suggestion is finding someone that will let you ride a bike with MOs.

In my opinion, they are too quiet, yet the deep percussion can be annoying to the ears after a while (for me and the wife that is about 200 miles). No real bark when rolling on the throttle;more like a deep gurggle). I drilled 1.25" holes in the baffles hoping to change the frequency and making them just a little louder.

It make them a little louder (maybe 10-15%) but did not really modify the deep sound.

I heard the MOs the other day and they sound great. You are gonna have to hear them in person for yourself. I would go with V&H.

If you can find a pair on ebay and try em out, you can always sell them again. I swapped pipes 3-4 times before I settled on V&H True Duals with Dresser Ovals. With a couple of the mufflers I even made a buck or two.

Saturday morning coffee at the HD dealer is usually a good place to listen to a variety of pipes. Good luck.

The MO's were too quiet for me and had this dronning sound at cruise. Also it was just a matter of time before they touched down. Now I'm in Bub 7 - Heaven. Lov'm.

For those that don't worry about the MO's touching down, here a pic to consider.

Will getting rid of the CAT void your warranty???

Love my Monster Ovals on my 2004 RK.

I know a guy who loved them on his TC88 too, but sold them with the bike. Here's where it gets interesting - he bought a 2009 & put Monster Ovals again. He said the highway sound was now an annoying drone, and he ended up selling them.
He said the highway sound was really different on the TC96.

EDIT: I'm thinking even little things, like new cams, can change the exhaust note.

They will if you are heavily loaded and are not running enough air in the rear. I run my rear shocks at no less that 30psi loaded or 2 up and if touring 2 up I run them closer to 50.

I agree with todd-67. Keep your air pressure up when riding loaded and dragging shouldn't be a problem. At least is has worked for me. I have had people riding behind me say that it looks close, but after 20,000 miles I have not dragged them.
