i am not starting this to be the big oil debate but more or les what people use in the bikes i know some use syn3 in all holes or amsoil or trans fluid in primary and so on... i want to know mileage and problems if any that have arose from said combos..
right now i run amsoil gear lube in tranny 74-140 i think and valvoline 20-50 mc formula in engine and hd's formula+ in primary been thinking about switching to amsoil tranny fluid in the primary herd alot better clutch grab and since oil is kept seperate from the engine heat issues arnt that bad... and have herd alot of people who run trans fluid inprimary and never herd of a problem yet.... so lets hear it no trashing anyone... i have my opinions on oil but i also know 99.99% of engine faliures has nothing to do with oil choice or oil mfg used...
Never had a problem using HD oil and primary/tranny fluid in 4 different Harleys. I keep it simple.
I go 3 or 4 thousand miles on oil or one season, 10,000 or so on primary, 20,000 or so on tranny.
Good info in the Oil forum. I use common sense and try to keep it simple. With these air cooled engines, the less friction, the less heat! I personally think 75W140 oil is too heavy for the tranny. I use Amsoil 75W90 Severe Gear. I use Amsoil 20W50 V-twin in the engine. I just switched to Mobil 1 ATF for the primary. I'm going to switch to Mobil 1 in everything my next oil change. I can buy it at Advance Auto and cheaper than Amsoil. I think Amsoil and Mobil 1 are top's in Synthetic oil. JMO
