Anyone here had experience with Dave Mackie Engineering out of Ventura? I have spoken to two people about their work.
The first had their kit, (headwork, jugs, pistons, cams), on his '05 RG and raved about power and mileage. Running > 100 HP and Torque on his 95" build.
The second had the same done to his '93 Heritage Softail and had a lot of problems on his build.
Just thinking about doing a 103" build on my SG next year.
Thanks

The guy with the Heritage needs to understand that any build is no better than the guy who assembles it. Mackie's work is great.
I've been running a 95" Megasphere set up in an '02 Fat Boy (my other bike) since the spring of '05. His heads are absolutely beautiful. I used barrels that he bored and fitted to his pistons. I'm running his 590 cams and a 45 m.m. Mikuni. I also use a S.E. six speed. The motor is amazing. Good power down low, way better than stock, then at about 3700 r.p.m.'s it let's you know you're on a hot rod. It's really mild mannered around town. I think it runs cooler than stock. We rode through 105-110 heat a couple of summers ago and I was amazed at how cool the motor was. Stopped for gas and drank a bottle of water and it just started back up and idled like a 70 degree day. The heads are reworked to work together with forged pistons made to Dave's specs by JE. That combo creates a 20 degree squish angle combustion chamber. It works. Not to start internet drag racing, but my little fatty seems to out pull other 95's and 103's. It's a gas to ride and I am sold on Dave's stuff.

Thanks for the replies. You guys sound like my friend with the RG. He has nothing but praise for the work on his bike. I think I am going to contact DME this fall,(too much riding coming up), and talk more about this.
I put his heads matched up to a set of SE forged 95" pistons and his 590 cam in my 02 Dyna and t has 110 hp and 118 ftlbs. have over 20000 miles and still runs strong

Hard to blame Mackie without knowing who did the install and I know that Dave does not do installs as I decided not to go with him for that exact reason. If his shop would have done the install I would have most certainly gone with him.
Used to have a 93 inch shovel head. Putting a set of heads on that were ported by Dave Mackie was the single most significant improvement I ever did to the bike. This was back in the early 80's so not many dyno's around but the seat of the pants indication and performance playing the stop light to stop light game was significantly improved.
Dave was very good to work with, he took the time to talk with me about what I had and what I was building and ported the heads accordingly. Branch would hardly give the the time of day and acted insulted when I asked if they finished the heads on the flow bench. Branch would flow the heads for extra funds, Mackie didn't consider the heads done unless he flowed them (part of the package and considerably less price than Branch at least back then).

I had them do the 98 Megashere to my '04 Softail Standard and I am very happy with the results. They did a great job and I was even doing a military PCS at the time so they hooked me up putting my bike ahead of so others.
