You can't get an opinion here to take to the bank. You need to find out for yourself which you prefer. Go rent them back to back. Some dealers will let you rent for 1/2 day, and you could ride each for 3-4 hours in the same day. You'll know at the end of that demo which you really prefer. Then they'll take the price of the rental off your purchase price if you buy within 30 days. I've ridden both, for long periods, and while both are great scoots, individual preferences are just that, INDIVIDUAL. Some dealers will actually let you test ride the bikes. Again, a back to back comparison is best as everything is fresh in your mind right after riding the other model. All the big rallies have demo rides that you can do, so that might be an option as well. I don't know of any real issues (deal breakers) on either model if that helps your dilemma.
Size of the rider makes a difference too, a tall rider is gonna feel more cramped on a Bat wing and a small rider is not gonna reach the dash of the RG. I tried a SG and felt like the dash was right on top of me, I stand at 5'11". I traded up from a soft tail to a RG, maybe thats why I prefer the openess of the RG fairing. My two cents worth...
Own a 08' EGC and love it. Have road the shark and it was nice too but I would not give up my Bat for the Shark. All the controls seemed to far out of reach compared to the Bat. Personal preference really.
Currently ride an Ultra but often ride a friends Roadie. I love to ride his bike in the twisties.
Not knocking the Ultra but the RG is more fun. Ultra is a better ong road trip bike imho.
If HD comes out with and Ultra RG I could be tempted.
I heard a rumor that because of the current economic situation and declining bike sales that HD has meet with Honda in talks about producing a new line. Hondadavidson
