Could be wrong but, it's my understanding the lowers by design provide more air flow to the engine. Maybe not to the legs, but to the engine.

That's interesting. This is my first bike with lowers (2010 Ultra) and I was wondering if I should remove them for this summer.
I read the manual and it does not say anything about recommending the removal of them.

I take mine off each spring to help with the heat. It would seem that removing them would allow more air to flow by the engine. If having them on keeps air off your legs, then would it keep air off the engine also ? This spring I will try something different by only removing one lower and riding around for a day just to see if there is a difference. I will have my wife see if she notices a difference also as she experiences different air flow.

Yes they are removed when the weather starts to change. Venterd lowers and they might be designed to put more air to the motor but IMO does not function will . I base that on motor ping when on ping when off no ping! Great for winter & Rain!

Thanks Russ

I have vented lowers and I leave them on all the time. In the summer time we get temperatures in the 100's. Never a problem with the vents open. No pinging, oil pressure remains about 28 pounds on the hottest days, no oil cooler either. I just run Syn3 oil.

I might wear tennis shoes instead of boots in the hottest days. gud enuf.
