Default Primary Sound

I have an 07 with the primary chain tensioner. Every once in a while when I hit the throttle hard, it sounds like I have a piece of gravel rattling around in my primary. Could my chain be a bit loose? I think the sound could be the chain slapping around a bit. Any suggestions?

I have had it open but I must say, I don't know how to check the tension. I've only been riding the last few years and have only had bikes with an auto tensioner. If I remember the manual right, isn't there a tool to check the tension?

I think your thinking of belt tension, there is a tool for that.

You may be experiencing a compensator failure. Ive heard of a few 07's with this issue

The HD auto tensioner has been experiencing ratcheting problems. Take the tensioner off and manually ratchet it. Better yet, replace it with the new hydraulic wedge tensioner from Southern Oregon Hot Bikes. If it is your compensator, replace it with the SE compensator.

Fixed it for me, but as dawg pointed out, check out the SOHB wedge too.
