D&D Boss Fatcat ,,Question
#13
Actually I think the performance baffle is the perforated one. The concentric is supposed to be quieter than the performance baffles, but is supposed to be used on stock bikes. I am guessing the baffle flows much less than the perforated or wrapped perforated baffles. As to the stereo concern, I just ordered a set of J&M 7.25 speakers from Dr V Twin, looking forward to installing them this week when they get here.

the stage 111 kit i have on my rgc i had the concentric baffle wich is the new quiet
baffle,I switched to the standard wrapped baffle because the concentric killed my performance, also the boss fatcat is different than the older fatcats as far as baffles are concerned
original dyno w/concentric 79 hp 92 tq
new dyno w/wrapped baffle 104 hp 110tq
Huge difference!

I did the D&D muffler swap program... originally installed the wrapped baffle; 85 horsepower@ 5700 RPM and 92.5 torque @ 4200. Pipe is super if you like LOUD! I installed Biketronics 6 1/2 inch front speakers with their 75 watts per channel amplifier just so I could hear the radio with my open face helmet on. Exhaust loudness bothered me after about 1 month. I called Leonard and purchased the Concentric (Q baffle) baffle muffler and it did quiet my bike down nicely but I lost power; 84.4 hp@ 5700 and 86 tq@ 3000. As you see, I lost 6 1/2 ft. lbs. although peak torque comes in at a usable rpm for the street. The Q baffle works great with a stock engine but not so well with modified. Leonard tells me that they are not pleased with the way the Q baffle unit has performed on modified engines and they are working on developing a muffler that doesn't bark so bad but also performs. Personally, I do not like to ride through small towns on our road trips and have the loudest bike in the group. I've considered 103ing my engine to try to regain some lost torque, but the Q baffle still wouldn't allow the engine to breath freely enough. So as soon as D&D comes up with plan "C", I'll probably drop another $350 bucks.
