J&M Headset Heads-Up
This is a heads-up that this helmet is not really compatible, without helmet modification, with the J&M Elite headsets. The J&M speakers are thicker than the ones in the HD headsets. There are no speaker pockets, per se, in the helmet but rather pockets formed by the liner. The pocket is not deep enough to accomodate the J&M speakers without extreme discomfort.
I think I am going to make this work by getting a dremmel and cutting out some of the fiberglass in order to "make" an ear pocket. I perhaps could just use my HD headset that came with the bike but I have read that the J&M speaker sounds better (plus I am already out the money) so I am trying to make it work.
I will also mention that the HD microphone clamp is much easier to attach to the helmet than the J&M microphone clamp. If you are going to buy a J&M headset, it would probably be wise to call them and make sure it will work well with your helmet. I didn't do that which was a mistake. What is really interesting is that the instructions that come with the J&M headset state that they may not work with HJC and Shoei 3/4 helmets without cutting the fiberglass helmet shell. Too bad J&M doesn't have that information posted on their website so buyer beware and forewarned. I thought others who are considering helmet and headset choices might benefit from this post.
As an addendum, headset issue aside, I really like this 3/4 helmet. Nice padding and the retractable sunshield is sweet (although it should be darker).

If anyone would like it for $120 less than the internet price that J&M sells it for, let me (or Shawn at Dr. V-Twin) know.

I read the J&M instructions with the headset that mentioned removing material from the helmet shell and was absolutley stunned that J&M would suggest potentially compromising the shell's integrity by removing material.
Having never used a headset until recently, it took me ten or more rides to get accustomed to having the speakers in contact with my ears. In fact, I bought a new helmet thinking I could buy one with significantly more room so that I wouldn't have the speakers touching my ears. I've since grown accustomed to the headset contact and no longer feel the need to switch the headset to the new helmet.
Hope you get your issues resolved.
