I thought the same thing on my 08 when added the back rest. After riding with it awhile, and noticing no more back pain, I have decided it is O.K. I think I was so used to slumping that sitting correctly was just too different. At 6-2 I probably would be more comfortable with a different seat all together, but between the back rest and the long haired sheep skin I can doze off now if I don't watch it!

Don't heat it. Cold bend it. Less likely to damage the upholstery and the round bar supports will retain their strength. A little bending and shimming will make a huge difference.

Can someone post a picture of these shims?

I was looking at it last night and this morning and I dont see where adding shims would help.

Every place I can see to do it will pivot the main bracket and risk the front or rear edge digging into fender paint.

Thanks!

I own a solo seat that I might still swap out from time to time so I want to make sure I dont damage the fender.

maybe some thin hard rubber then? you could always make a small 'skirt ' to cover the mounting area up when the solo is on and still have a clean look...just need to hide the mounting spot, how much of it is visible when the solo is on?

I thought I read previous posts about people doing modifications but I couldnt find anything using the search.

I thought of heating up the 2 round bars and putting a slight bend in them to give me a little room.

Any other suggestions or advice would be helpful!
I put a couple of washers under the bracket to allow it to lean a little, then tossed the strap that goes on the front from the bracket to the frame & replaced it with a longer one I made. It allows the whole thing to lean back further. The strap is the black painted part in the picture. Mine is for sale if anyone needs one............

Well... I went out and shimmed it until it fit perfectly BUT its too far back for the slot that is in my seat.

It was pushing so hard on my seat that the passenger area was bulging up and looked horrible.

I shimmed it again until it was pushing on the rear part of seat as much as I am ok with and its still too far forward.

Im going to go to a buddies house today and bend the down tubes above where hey come out of the seat to give me a little more room.

If the rear seat tab was adjustable like my Harley Brawler seat I could have shifted the whole seat back a 1/4 or 1/2" and it would have moved the slot back. My stock seat rear tab is riveted in place and not adjustable.

I know this maybe a stupid question but...mine has a small allen head screw with an access hole in the leather on the back to increase/decrease angles. Have you tried that yet?

And, I put a mustang solo bib down before I put the bracket on, but you can use anything soft. I also used felt furniture pads which I stuck on the bottom of the bracket and drilled through.

I have the same problem

I have the fully adjustable back rest and am using it with a Sundowner Seat. The seating position of the driver on the Sundowner seems futher back than the stock seat and when the back rest is installed with it in the max back tilt it pushes me out of the pocket of the seat.

I have thought about putting some heat to it but havn't gotten around to it. I would like to remove the back rest of the support to do the work but havn't figured out how to seperate the two parts.
