So... I took my backrest apart and put some heat to it and bent it a little.

Its Perfect Now!....

I was worried about melting something so I took the pad off the brackets and also removed the top half of the bracket that swivels to avoid melting the plastic washers. I also marked it before taking it off the bike to make sure the bend started above the level of the seat in the lowest position. Just guessed as to how much to bend and it worked out perfect.

It went from a backrest I would never use to one that feels great! I only rode about 45 miles after putting it back together and have never ridden a bike with a backrest but it felt really good.

I messed with the Allen adjusting screw a couple of times and got it just right. Thought about "maybe" putting a thumb screw there for easy adjustment.

On my previous bike ('05 RK) I cut the support arm off of the mounting bracket allowing it to be installed backwards. I know, I know, cutting supports off and installing parts backwards doesn't sound like a good idea but it works. This improves the angle so the back rest is not leaning too far forward.

I don't know of any reason this would not work on an '09.
