Default Backrest Help.. Too Far Forward... Modification?

I bought a backrest for my 09 SG and istalled it today. I installed the bracket as far back as it would go still allowing me to insert it through the slot in the seat.

I thought I read previous posts about people doing modifications but I couldnt find anything using the search.

I thought of heating up the 2 round bars and putting a slight bend in them to give me a little room.

Any other suggestions or advice would be helpful!

I complained of mine on my 08 Ultra, not so much too far forwards as wrong angle. Seems like it needs to be reclined at the top just a bit. I think 1/4-1/2 inch of reclining would make a huge difference. Never have made time to bend it yet, but still thinkin about it. Guess I kinda got used to it the way it is.

I was really hoping someone would have modified one by now and would be able to share!

I bit the bullet and installed it to help out my back even though I think its ugly.
I know they make the adjustable one but I couldnt afford that right now.

Im a bigger guy, 6'2" 240lb and it pushes me forward into the tank.

I think heating it and bending it would help give me that extra 1" im looking for?

On my 09 ultra I added a few spacers to the front bolts of the backrest support, it helped a bit leaning it in more of a reclining position. Its not much, but it seems to be adjusted correctly for me now.

That's the biggest complaint about the HD backrest. You need to bend it or,
get the Mustang. Way better.

Try it on the lowest set of holes in the bracket. If mine is up one set higher then I am cramped. When I lower it I am comfortable. Makes a big difference for me.

I bent mine but only because it never occurred to me to shim up the forward edge of the bracket. I'd try that first.

I put mine in a vice and heated the two rods and just pulled back until I felt it move a little bit. Let it cool and it was perfect. Might have to do it a couple times to get it to suit you. I got lucky. BTW, remove the spring between the rods before you heat them. It will ruin the spring if you leave it in......don't ask
