Default '03 E-Glide Rear Bumper removal ?

As mentioned in my intro I'm not new to HD's however when it comes to Twin Cam Touring Models I know just enough to be very dangerous.

I was going to replace the deteriorated rubber insert in the rear bumper. However, after taking it off I realized that I like the cleaner look of it removed.

It seems that it adds a little rigity to the bag supports, but it is required for the integrity of the entire design, or is it purely for "foo-foo" factor?

Looking at it you can imagine how the added support gets transfered from one side to the other. Seems to me it would anyway. But many have taken the bumper off to get that clean 'streetglide' look. Haven't noticed anyone speaking of any problems after they did it.

That was my thinking as well, but wanted to see if I was missing something.

You should replace the part you removed with the bracket used on Street Glides, Road King Customs, and Road Glides (plain rear fender/no fender tip light); HD p/n 91140-04. It does the same thing the bracket you removed did but without the chrome/rubber bumper.

Not sure of the precise structural issues involved, but without the bracket the chrome struts will spread away from the fender.

Thanks for the input folks.

Now that I know what it looks like I'll make my own. I've conquered harder fabs than this.

I'm not sure which bracket you're referring to...although it's not as sturdy now, there is no way the muff or saddlebag support will hit the tire.

The picture I posted above shows the bracket/bumper I was refering to already removed.

Yeh, the fender is seperate of the saddlebag braces until you add that bracket. I doubt the bag supports would go far enough to hit the tire without the bracket, (that is without any external force being applied), but the fender itself seems to be a bit flimsy and I could see the possibility of some distortion without the bracket to hold it centered. While I do agree that the supports will tend to shift a small amount either inward or outward. Mine has to be pulled apart to reattach the bumper bracket.
