I own a 05 Sporster Custom so im not too fimilar with the baggers. I do love the look of the streetgluides and think it will be my next bike. But i look at an electicguilde standard and wonder whats the difference? Is it just name and one has a radio the other does not? Please fill me in.
I bought the EG Standard a couple months ago because the price was a little lower. I never have been real keen on including add on's in the interest. I added the stereo a month after I got it, installed it myself & had the dealer callibrate it for $39.50 and I'm happy. Total spent on accessories after initial purchase is approaching $4,000.00 so far. The way I see it, that's money saved. I do wish the engine had chrome heads instead of polished, but there is a trade-off in just about anything I guess. Understand I'm not trying to influence you one way or the other as far as which one you buy. just a little something to think about. Good luck to you whichever way you go and enjoy.
I was looking at buying an Electra glide standard and cleaning it up. Cutting down on the trim, etc. When the Streetglide came out, it looked about what I wanted to do with the Electra glide, so I bought it. I couldn't be happier. It sits a little lower and has some smoother looking features. That is what appealed to me.
I was looking to buy a Road King when I found a 04' Electra Glide w/low miles that a guy at work was selling and bought it. I wasn't looking at the Electra Glide at all. I'm glad I found this bike. It has a great ride and handles like my old Ninja. It's very 'balanced' in looks and handling. I love the fairing and I could not live without the hard bags. I use them on every ride - even around town.
I added a Mustang solo seat and put the passenger seat on when it's needed. Put a stereo in from Biketronics w/Hogtunes and added some chrome and other accessories.
Like I said, the Electra Glide wasn't even on my radar screen when I was looking. Take your time and look at them all!
SG is much more of a custom, low, sporty, with the chrome, drag style bike. The EG std. is a good starter bike in the bagger class. The basic bagger with none of the frills. If your goal is to fix it up and the moneys there,go with the SG. If your happt with the stripped model go with theEG. Both are Harleys and both handle great !!! In the end you will be happy!!
