If the holes in the fairing are oversize and oblong, they will pull out.Placing a washer that slip fits over the wellnut and placed on the backside of the nut should prevent them from pulling out.
There are some on Ebay that have washers but cost around $20,ouch!
With a RG, a certain amount of tuning is often necessary, that is, windshield style and dimension to give the rider the experience he is comfortable with. Tuning, so to speak, is a function of the seat, rider height, bike lowers or no, handlebars, helmet style, and so forth. There are many good options in terms of RG w/s to try. I went with the Clearview medium +1, and added the center vent. (5'11 height, stock seat and handlebars) It was the right choice. Manages air flow around and through the w/s to improve rider comfort.
On my 2000 RG I run a Clearview 16" with vent & recurve with good results. Like with many other bikes on mine no windsheild does away with all buffeting, especially when anywhere near big trucks & SUV's. I have never had any trouble with the well nuts pulling out.I just check them periodicly and make sure not to overtorque them which will result in a cracked windsheild. Good Luck & ride safe.
As noted elsewhere on this thread, RG's need a little "tuning". 2 biggest differences I did was tires (Elite 3's) and HD low profile windshield PN 58284-04a. I suspect you may be over-torqueing the screws down. I replaced 4 of the well nuts when I installed the new shield as they were visibly damaged. Contrary to many riders I found the lower shield to provide a calmer cockpit at my head level. I used a very scientific method of testing for calmness and airflow. My beard. At the time it was 8 - 10 inches long and at speed (60 mph) would fly up into my face and eyes. Once I installed the low-pro my beard flew straight back without any up-lift. Note the calm air pocket moved down with a lower shield. The height factor is 6'0".
its too bad some one cant come up with a different fastening system whereas you could change out your shield in minutes....without all the hassels...like maybe some kind of tapped steel band somehow fastened in there so wellnuts arent needed....wish some of you inventive types would get to work on that....

I dont think it would be hard to do.
Saw/mill some blocks out of ABS sheet, drill and tap for thread inserts, line them up and glue.
Clearview +1 med tint, with vent works fine for me....well over 20,000 miles, maybe 30-35 I don't know.. no problems with the supplied well nuts, in my experience.
As far as "discounts" check out their "on hand inventory" usually folks can't find the blems, even when they are told where to look....

We are both the same height and was wondering since I will eventually call Clearview to order mine is if the +1 you have is taller than stock? Does it have the recurve? I like the idea of getting the vent providing it's not too butt ugly. I had a 9" on my 05 CVO EG and a 15" on my 01 Heritage both with recurves and worked great.

Rakeman, the stock w/s measures 16 3/4" from base of rubber trim to the top. The Clearview medium +1 measures 19 1/2". I chose that size based on discussion with Clearview and their recommendation. I wanted to be able to see over the shield yet have it tall enough to move the wind up from my face to the top helmet area. Seems to have accomplished that goal.
Actually the faster you go on the highway, the better the windshield works at moving air around you. I took some quick blackberry pics of the shield and center vent. The photos are not professional quality but should give you an idea, if interested. I chose the vent option based on a recommendation from Forum members here, and it was good advice.
If you would like pics, hit me on the PM with your email address. If you want good photos I will get wife's camera.
