Is it me or does the stock Roadglide windshield "SUCK"? I have had to replace my gromits on it because they come out, every 1,500 miles or so.This must be HD biggest design flaw ever.Does anyone have a cure for this most dissapointing function on my beloved "ROADGLIDE"? Thanks for your input.
I bought a set of well nuts on ebay and they work great. Won't loose them in the fairing.
Always keep extra well nuts on hand. Im still searching for an alternative supplier. Seems mine get distorted from over tightening, then fall through. There are a bunch of options for rg shields. Research the threads and try the classifieds here. Ive ended up with 4 different.
12" klockwerks is my fav so far.
I had the same problem with my 02, my 06 has a different type of fastener. Not sure when they changed but the new ones don't fall out.
Been riding RG'S for 10 years and never had well nuts come loose.
But had many fall into the fairing. The rubber nuts do distort and that's just the way it is with rubber being rubber. Bought a set of well juts on ebay and they work just fine. Don't fall into the fairing like the factory ones. I have 5 windshields ranging from 9" to 15" The best looking one is a 15" contoured tinted from Cee Baileys. The best working one that I use for trips is a 15" tinted from 7jurock.com, but they don't have contoured yet. 7jurock and Cee Baileys use aircraft grade material. I too feel the RG is the best touring and handling bike that Harley makes. Bought a 09 Street Glide, took a trip to Texas from So. Cal and hated the batwing. Got home and bought all the parts to change it to a RG front end. I'm a happy camper again.

I havn't had a problem with the stock wellnuts falling in but they do get all distorted and pull out.
How do the Ebay ones hold up and can you reuse them more than the stock ones?
So far they are holding up. They do distort, but that's just rubber.
I usually put the nuts on the windshield first just snug enough to hold them on, then install it. To keep the nuts from distorting so much I don't crank the screws real tight which seems to help and never had one come loose. I've used them over and over with no problems so far. I feel the trick is to not tighten the nuts any more than what it takes to hold the windshield on good and snug but not real tight. But over time the rubber do distort. The problem with the stock ones is the shoulder is to small and they flatten out and fall in real easy. Have had to loosen the outer fairing many times to get the nuts out.
I like the ebay ones because they have a much larger shoulder with a washer in front of it and they don't fall in.

Bought a well nut kit on ebay. They are working good so far.
You have to tighten them enough to compress the nuts so they won't come out. I've never had them come out.
