Default Factory Security System Question

Looking at the HD web site for the various touring models I see the security option listed for $370 retail. Is this just the HD smart security system listed for $299.95 in the parts & accessories catalog?
So for $70 less retail (more if I purchase the security system during one of the local dealers 25% off days) I also get the original TSM module. From what I read it's a 10 minute install (just plug in new module) and get dealer to actuate the fob. For a person that has even just basic mechanical skills, why would one want the dealer installed security option?

Its simple to install, just unplug the TSM and plug in the HFSM, but you need to do a password learn. THAT takes 10 minutes with the dealer computer, it can take over an hour to do manually.

Just got one from Zanotti $217.00 + $60.00 dealer install and set up = $270.00 I figure I am $100.00 ahead of the game.

I got mine from Zanotti's too, then paid the dealer $37.50 (shop minimum) to actuate. Added the Radio Shack siren ($6) and I'm into the upgrade for only about $260, which is a far-cry from the >$500 they want for a factory install.

You have to follow the instructions found on this forum to install the tssm. If you do not, the bike will not start after you put it in. It took me some head scratching to get mine working, but I did it. You do have to take the bike to the dealer to get the fobs working, so you may just want to do that. If you do decide to install it yourself, PM me and I will tell you what the instructions didn't tell me on my 2010 RKC.

The one for $299.95 only comes with one FOB. The $370 price tag includes 2 from the factory.

Had mine installed when I purchased the bike. Dealer only charged me the 299.95+ one hour. It came with 2 FOBs. I later added the smart siren II. It goes on the left not the right according to the installation instructions.

Ride safe, Live long and prosper.

I'm not sure which touring models, but my Road King Classic and my '09 Ultra Classic came with a factory security system. I only had to add the Siren II to have the audiable option.

I recently bought a 2000 RKC. I went to the dealer yesterday to inquire about adding the HD Smart Security. When the parts guy looked it up in the catalog, he found that there is not a system listed for the year 2000. The list goes 1997-1999 then goes 2001, 2002...etc. totally skipping the year 2000. We went in back to ask the mechanic and they scrathced their heads and couldn't come up with an answer. So, the parts guy is going to call HD and get back to me. Might be a typo or might be something else - strange huh? Might get the cyclone 866f anyways but still undecided - may not have a choice.
