Default Upgrade my 06 Ultra or buy an 07?

I'm asking for your opinion on this.... my Ultra bought in May has 400 miles! It's an 88 with stage 1 upgrade and SE pipes. I'm now deciding to do stage 2 on the 06 or buying an 07.... I'm deciding on this because it bothers me that I don't have the larger engine now plus resale after an 06 upgrade or for the 07s will be better. There are several angles to consider.... does one realize the full benefit of the 96 in engine on an 07 because it's lugged down by EPA controls? Would a stage 2 on an 06 be more desirable for that reason?
I gather that 06 and before are more modifyable and therefore more desirable to harley lovers. I"m betting that the stage 2 95 in. would have slightly more power than the 96 in an 07... The 6 speed doesn't matter much to me presently. i'm told the new engine is smoother at highway speeds maybe only because of the 6 speed. Anyway! what ever your fine opinions dictate is very interesting to me!

I would hang onto the 06 and upgrade it. You'll be taking a hit by trading in the 06. The money you lose will pay for the 06 upgrade. Not only that, I'm sure there will be problems with the 07's. You've already got money into 06 with the stage one and pipes. I'd say keep it!

Just ride it -- you'll get hammered on trade in, and with the first year of the new engine/tranny combo, there may be some latent problems that have been long since resolved in your engine/tranny configuration. Besides -- what caused you to buy what you did? That must mean you really liked what you saw....

Stick with it... There will always be something newer, bigger, brighter, better -- or so it would seem until you make the switch....

If it is just the power you want, a 95 stage upgrade with tw37 Andrews cams, SE SLIP ON MUFFLERShI FLO FILTER AND RACE TUNER WILL GET YOU 80 PLUS hp AND 100 FT LBS TORQUE. That is more than the 96 puts out. It may depend on what you can sell or trade yours for to go to 07 without loosing your shirt. To trade or sell so early almost guarantees a good loss of money in the deal. Up grading will cost you some but not as much as a trade.I have such a set up and dyno gives me these numbers. It must be the gear drive cams though. The se203s that come with the stage 2 wont do it. get a 95 big bore without cams and buy the Andrews tw27 gear drives separately.

I wouldnt worry about problems with the new bikes since most of the new parts were tested in tho 06 dynas, and the rotating assembly is basically the rotationg assembly from the 103 SE engine that has been out for several years. But 400 miles, it is still a new bike. There is not that much difference.

400? Shoot, she ain't even broke in yet.

I would not be surprized if there are a few bugs in the 07's that will only be found after they are in use.

I agree, I would hold on to it and not take the beating.
Ride for a few months and then if you still want the power, do the upgrades.

I traded my old Wide Glide for this new Ultra in June and have about 1200 miles now and love it.
I might do the upgrade during the winter, but right now just want to enjoy the ride

Keep that bike!

I've posted this a few times, but it appears based on info from the Harley '07 parts catalog that a 95" Big Bore on a stock 88" puts out more horsepower than a new 96" with a Stage I kit.

Plus, you'll take a bath on the trade-in (I've been there when I ABSOLUTELY had to trade my '03 Superglide for my '05 bagger). I've always enjoyed these forums where dealers are either altruistic upstanding citizens or evil incarnate. The truth is that they're in it for a profit. Your low mileage '06 is worth far less to them today than it was when you purchased it. Chances are you paid in the neighborhood of $23,000 for the bike with upgrades. The best trade-in value I'd expect is in the neighborhood of $15,000 to (a very generous $17,000). That means you've paid a premium of between $6000 to $8000 for a maximum of one year of service on your '06. That's a lot of money.

To tel the truth, a well done Stage I upgrade (air cleaner, SERT or PCIII, and pipes) should give you more than enough power.

Ride your very nice 2006 for a while. Heck, you've got a new sound system over us '05 owners as it goes.
