When I bought my Deluxe, I wanted to pay cash up front...Dealer told me he could give me a bigger discount if I financed through HD and then paid off when first statement arrived. They sold me the bike for $1200 less doing it this way. Not sure if it was a gimmick or not but I still got my bike for a lower price than any other dealer would give to me.
Not arguing with you but my two cents on this is it's not deception at all. The financing contracts that Eaglemark/HD offer are open ended and clearly state at inception that you can pay off early with no penalty at anytime whike the terms are in effect. No deception at all for agreeing to finance and then paying off. Hell, these credit and loan companies are scoundrels when it comes to screwing and deceiving people. Deception would be agreeing to the financing terms and then skipping town and not paying...a whole different ball game....

When you talk to your credit union, tell them what you want to do. Make sure that the % will remain the same on a "used" bike. Since you'll be taking posession of the bike, it will become used and some credit unions have a higher interest rate versus new. You want to make sure you don't get caught in a trap. Also, ask the dealer what the outright purchase price would be and what he will charge you if you finance with HD. After you get the price, if it's lower, you can see if HD will lower their interest rates.
Ain't purchasing a new vehicle a bitch!
I belong to two credit unions and both finance a bike that is registered, as "new" (lower interest rate) as long as it's in the current model year. Banks may not do this but I don't believe that I belong to the only two credit unions that do it.
I'd be right up front about it. I like to lay my head down and go right to sleep at night. Don't want to worry about who is trying to stick it to me because that's how I go through life (sticking it to others and lieing). I don't, I enter business deals honestly and expect the same in return. I've not regreated living my life like that and I think I'm the better for it.
