Default Fairing thread repair

If someone doesn't have access to these replacement parts because their local dealer doesn't have them and there in desperate need, heli-coils work equally as well. 1/4-20 kits are available at most auto parts stores.

I just epoxied one of mine back in, it's held for the last two years.

Epoxy didn't work for me. I heated the plastic with a heat gun until it was very slightly softened and pressed the old insert back in. Then I out a small hose clamp on the fairing to squeeze it down. Has been working so far. That fitting is available from McMaster or most good industrial hardware stores.

Thanks.

I talked to Dawg in a P.M. and he said that defenitly the slot goes into the plastic first. I went with Dawgs advise and it worked great!
Glad it worked out for you!

This is one area that I don't use a torque wrench. I prefer instead to use a light weight straight driver and tighten by feel in a pattern then go for a ride and retighten as needed.

Thanks for taking the time to post in detail. I used a C-clamp and carefully pressed mine back in and have reverted to tighten by feel approach..but I know it's only a matter of time....
