I have the same problem with the inserts. Just went to install a new windshield on my 07 Ultra and the two end brass inserts came out....center one OK. I had epoxed them in before and before that, I used JB weld. Now I have two to repair so off I go to Menards and get them for .29 cents each. :-)
Thanks for posting the repair method - gonna save me alot of screwing around!
BTW: You would think on a $25,000 motorcycle, Harley Davidson could do better than this type of cheap method for windshield mount fastners. :-(
Good post! My 2 end ones popped out today after doing a garage door opener mod and putting in some new speakers. I was a little confused when I came home with 2 inserts that didn't look like the ones that failed but hoped it was something like this. Thanks for posting and telling us the threaded slotted end goes in first. I thought maybe the slots were for a screwdriver to drive it in.
Maybe I'm just lucky, but I'ved owned 3 batwing ( 85'-96'-10') bikes and never had an insert go bad. I run different windshields all the time it seems, mostly big ones. I think you guys are crank'in them down to dam much ! Sometimes I think some of you guys need a torque spec for how tight to hold yer dick !
