I've read all the rear stabilizer threads until my eyes got sore!
Just read the latest "Tru-Track vs. Bagger Brace", and see that alot of you have many different brands.
My question is:
Do any of these introduce any new vibration to your bikes and if so, which one/ones, would introduce the least?
I'm seriously thinking about installing one but dont want any extra vibes.
Couldn't tell you if any one brand is worse than the others, but my Progressive link increased vibrations slightly but noticeably. I got used to it quickly. Well worth it.
Same here on the Progressive, noticed the vibe increase slightly, but nothing major. Remember you are stiffening the isolated tranny so the vibrations have to go somewhere, no matter what stabilizer is used.
Probably one of the reasons the MOCO did not include a rigid link from the frame to the tranny was increased vibration. We have installed and removed more than 10 of these types of devices because the owner hated the increased vibration, yet there are those who the vibes do not bother or they get used to it.......remember the old Softails?
My rule of thumb for these add-ons is if the bike didn't have a handling problem when it was new why not diagnose and repair the worn out part(s) rather than add another part to the bike to try to mask the problem.
I have 3 FLH's (1994flh, 1998flt, 2003flt). 2 never hinted at instability, the other "wobbled" or "weaved" since new.
Guess what? The 1994 wobbler had a frame that the steering neck-to-swingarm perpendicularity was out of mfg spec....from the factory in 1994. Replaced the frame in 2000 and have never had instability since.
The new frames are held to much tighter specs so I doubt there will be issues.
I can not speak to anyone else's experience but mine. I had read the same thing about increased felt vibration after installing a stabilizer so I was looking for it and I didn't experience any increase after installing mine. Now I put mine on at 2500 miles so my bike was very fresh at the time of the install. Yes I had gotten the "wobbles" or whatever you want to call it and since the install I have tried to make it do it again and it has not happened..... yet. I don't ride my bagger conservatively I ride pretty spirited so I feel that it was a good choice to put on the frame stabilizer.
I've got the progressive. It added vibration. I added a velva ride urethane front engine mount which reduced the vibration significantly. I'm also looking for other options. I wouldn't own the bike without something to tie the *** end down. I am looking hard at the Glide Pro setup. Their approach, adding a longer swingarm pivot bolt with shoulders and adding their urethane bushings at the outside length of the pivot to decrease the ability of the swingarm to deflect is very interesting.
I had the bagger brace installed after about 3000 mile due to poor handling since day one. I couldn't tell the difference in vibration at all, but the handling was vastly improved.
