check your neck...I have run at 70 mpg 75 mph with cruise on and no hands just to see how stable it runs on interstate and it is rock solid... I don't do often..but I have tested the theory out... I have a friend at interstate speeds his becomes dangerous...and his is a 12 with about the same miles..around 4500+ miles on it
Check your front wheel bearings too. I just replaced them on my 2009 Ultra. I ride all the time coming home from work with no hands cooling off my gloves. Of course I don't do it around cars or in traffic. When my wheel bearings were going out I had to keep at least one hand on the bars. Now I can go for miles using my arms as wind rudders to steer my bike. I don't recommend doing this 2 up. LOL.
I have a 12 FLTRXSE, and prior to this bike had a 10 FLTRX. both had the wobble at 40 mph. Ask the dealer to adjust the steering neck bearings under the NEW specs released by harley. I think it is service bullentin M-1246. Where the adjustment for the road glide is 1 to 2 swings. I have mine tighten down to 1.5 swings. The wobble goes away.
all other touring models are 3 to 4 swings except the road glide.
Yeah, but they don't work...Nah, just pokin' back at those who poked at me...I respect those who responded like adults, and gave attitude back where it was given to me...This is the only forum where I've ever encountered anything less than positive...Guess I'll go elsewhere...
No anger...Not worth it...
My 08 RG did the same thins then started at 70MPH and got worse. I never let go now. Thanks for the shop info!
I'd have to admit, I read these wobble threads and never knew what folks were talking about..... until this past Sunday.
Wife and I started our ride and heading through our town I set the cruise at 40 mph (so I would not get another ticket). I loosly let go of the bars for a second, and wow.. handle bars started wobbling. I gripped them and it stopped. I then tried it again and if I didn't grip them again, we would have went down. It would not do it at 30, 50, etc.., only at 40.
So we turned around and I dropped the bike off at the dealer. Three hours later, they called and said the neck bearings needed adjustment.
On the ride home, sooth as silk. Amazing how after 20K miles on the bike, this issue just showed up. In the 09 manual, it doesn't call for adjustment until 25K miles, well, I'll be following the adjusted service bulletin every 5K miles now and check it myself.
Glad it's fixed, now it's 5 days off of work and some nice riding weather!
Fish. I ve posted several times on this thread concerning the wobble issue. Yours is another example of this on going issue. I have two tour bikes and a softail. All have done it. From neck bearings to low air pressure in tires. To unresolved causes.
Reasons for taking hands off bars, many. Lawsuits against HD for this, yep. Knuckle heads in here with uneducated comments, many. Folks like your self who are concerned and rely on others for some assistance, many. And that is the reason I stay subscribed to this thread. You did the right thing and Iam surprised the dealer fessed up on neck bearing being issue. Glad you got it fixed. But like you said, you will have to monitor and continue with the preventative mx. To ensure it does not happen. Thanks for your post Fish. LN.

They will need tightened again soon. At least mine did. I also threw a new front tire at mine, which fixed it for about 2,000 miles, it's back again.
