I just put on a Sundowner seat on my 08 FLHX yesterday and no way was I putting that PIA strap back on. Now if the weather would just warm up and rain enough to wash away all this leftover snow and salt I can try out the seat for a longer ride than a spin around the cul de sac.

Removing it is the only free modification you can do to your HD. Once done you can proudly announce to all that you've "customized" your bike.

Nice mod is to remove the strap from the brackets and then you have the chrome brackets to hook a bungee to when ya needs to strap something down - got that tip right here on the forum

The strap was the first thing I removed that I didn't replace it with something. Took the passenger grab rail off also.

Left the strap on, it does not really get in the way. I went and bought the grap rails for my 07, they come in handy moving the bike and gives the bride a place to slide her hands through during her naps.

It is for the old school nostalgia buffs. Back in the day, they were actually strong enough to be useful. If HD didn't put them on, the old schoolers would bitch.
