2009 e/g classic...whats the purpose of the seat strap?

For your passenger to hang on to but about as useful as your air temp gauge.

I was wondering the same thing. Thinking about removing mine. That thing makes removing the seat a pain.

it will also keep your seat on the bike if the rear mounting screw falls off

Hopefully if the screw falls out the bike is either not moving, therefore no rider but it should not fall off, or your azz is sitting on it and it would be difficult for it to fall off. For the passenger to hold on to and is very useless as I require my passenger to hold on to me, unless they are ugly and then I want ride them. HEHE!

If you remove it I think it voids the HD warrenty

That has always been one of the first things I remove off my bikes.
