People crack me up with dogs or cameras. You think you are going to get home in time, if you even happen to see your phone go off?

Plus the dogs. Unless the dogs have access to the garage, it doesn't matter if you have 20 hungry XXX breed, all they can do is bark.

I've got cameras on my property, The other problem is you need to be able to identify the person.

I guess I go you got insurance. But you will probably get screwed, and maybe not be riding. Plus I get attached to my bikes. I just keep buying, and not selling.
Nobody cares where you have worked.

Glad I crack you up. The barking is EXACTLY the point. I am not sure why you can't wrap your mind around that.

I mention my dog because yes, he barks if somebody is on the property. If I am home, that alerts us that someone is on the property. I don't want them to have access to the garage.

See how that works? If I am not home, then I hope the alarm scares them off, and the barking dogs. If not, then I guess I use the insurance. You mentioned insurance, but as usual, we can't read the ****ing sentence you typed.

I do have the cameras and the alarm. Why are you so against having dogs and cameras? We never said we wanted to get to the thief, and kill them. What the hell are you even talking about when you say "You think you are going to get home in time, if you even happen to see your phone go off?" ?

All you do is type. Your opinions as usual, are ****.

I lock my bikes. 99% of the time it won't be of any real benefit (like insurance) but that 1% of the time that it might actually have to do its job is worth it to me. It takes two seconds to lock and it does make the bikes just that little bit more annoying to try to steal. Every little bit helps. Just a couple of days ago my wife left the house without closing the garage door. Stuff happens.

People are a little sensitive to this. But I stand by what I said. You can find 20 rapid pitbulls in the house, and it will not do any good in the garage. Having lights on in your house, and people home, is probably better than a dog. Wifi controlled lights on a timer, which are really cheap, that make it look like you are home are probably better.

I put the wifi lights in so they would come on for the dogs.

I have cameras. But you have to be looking at your phone when the notification goes off, and be able to get home or get the cops there in time. Or you have to be able to ID the person, which means you probably need to know them. I mainly use them to watch the dogs on the coach.

Insurance? engine mods, ect, age and mileage will screw you. Myself, I don't sell bikes. Imagine having to buy a bike last year. Then get it set up again.

Get upset all you want, but you are in denial.

I was just agreeing with the guy who commented about the people watching the fake repo. You act like you are supposed to be doing it and no one will notice. Only bike theft I now was 20 years ago, they just drove up to the garage while the guy was at work, during the day. Calmy picked up the bike, and rolled it into a trailer. Broad daylight. Who cares if a bunch of dogs barking? They must be there for a reason, broad day light.

You could have cardboard cutouts of people dancing mounted to a circular train track in front of a light while music plays!

That would beat any other secruity system. You could do famous people, George Washington, Tyson, Trump, Ron Jeremy, and Jenna Jameson. Or dress the dogs up like people.

This thread is like the people who tell us they carry a gun when on their bike, when discussing road road incidents.

After reading this thread I’m thinking it’s a good idea to lock my bike. I never lock it except when I’m traveling far and staying in a hotel. I’ll also start carrying a cable lock and strap my bike. Not sure if that will help but just some additional deterrent.

well living in Canada, we aren't armed so no guns and no locks. My attack cat is probably sleeping so he's no good. I just park the bike in the garage and turn it off. Think i have locked the bags a couple time when i rode to work and do not want anyone opening up the quick access lid latches and helping themselves on the '20 RG. I never lock the 2009 SG bags as they have the old style closing system and non harley people dont seem to be able to figure out how to open them, i just assume Harley people wont mess with another Harley guys bike.
never had any issues and i have lived all across the country.in various cities.
I do lock my car/truck when outside but when inside my garage heck i leave the Fob in the cupholder so i don't have to look for it when i head out.

Wow! It's been a few minutes since I've checked in and am surprised to see this thread still alive.
Read through a lot of the comments and for sure there is a lot of different opinions about locking up.
I watched the video that was posted on different lock options and if they can be defeated and that was a great video, especially at the end.
Bottom line is that someone that is bound and determined to steal a bike will!
The more difficult we make it for someone the greater the likelihood that thieves will move on to easier pickings.
Be safe out there!

Locked bike or not I use a remote controlled switch like those for xmas lights to cut the power ot my garage door opener. Remote is on a nail just inside the house next to the locekd door to the garage. Door only gets power when I am in the garage or on the driveway. This will stop any garage door code scanners. That, and I have real insurance.
