Default Primary noise in neutral only. HELP!

My 07 Road Glide has just under 30K on it. I just got back from a 2000 mile trip in Arizona and now the primary is making a growling noise. It's never sounded like this before. The noise only happens in neutral. As soon as I shift it into gear, the noise stops. It also stops if I pull in the clutch but it takes longer to quiet down.

Anyone have experience with this?

What was at fault and how was it repaired.

Riding season is coming here in Washington and I want to repair this as soon as possible.

Thanks for any help guys.

Steve

your clutchis out of adjustment or the thru out bearing is bad,or there is wear somewhere.make sure the clutch cable is adjusted, then pull the derbi cover off and set the clutch throu out adjustment, if that dont do it, you need a new throu out bearing.. your service man. should tell you how

Hey Steve!!

My '07 Ultra did the same thing last year. Ended up being the inner primary bearing/race. Did the job myself, not very difficult. If you need further info/ideas send me an email @ aplmedic63@gmail.com.

Yup, it is likely the inner primary bearing. Mine went at about 30,000 miles. I have the extended warranty so that picked it up. The repair was about $385 if I remember right.

Do a search in the Dyna section on the IPB, you'll find tons of us lost them between 10-15,000 miles. The 06's are the main culprits.

if i were a betting man id say it is the inner primary bearing... theres are race on the shaft that has a tendency to walk in towards tranny (its a bitch to get off if it is against the tranny..baker has an upgrade style (which is what we replace all the factory ones with) called the HIGH TORQUE BEARING SEAL KIT it replaces the two piece bearing with a one piece that is pressed into the inner primary housing.. its about 41$ in the drag book.

You can cut the price in half at a local bearing house. I bought mine and as soon as I got it I looked at it and knew I paid too much. It's all good though, they did the research and figured out which bearing fit so I used it. Next time if it goes out again.......to the bearing house!

I found the inner primary bearing was failing. Pulled it apart last night.

Here is the tool I used. Found it on Ebay. It's a very well made tool at a great price.
