Default UltraCool Oil Cooler

I think I'm going to install one of these on the next oil change in 150 miles - http://www.ultracoolfl.com/
Spent many hours looking up feed back, seems everyone is very happy with this unit.
Any problems, issues anyone knows with this oil cooler?
Thanks!

It looks nice and I am looking to get an oil cooler, but I went looking through, and for, some of the dealers in their network and could not find the product listed at any of the sites i found. It could be that I have to pick up the phone to get it, but I figured if they were going to list them as "dealers" at least one of them should have it listed on the site, maybe for a little less that $450. No luck. I am interested in finding out if anyone has used this cooler and if it is 50% (price) better than the HD cooler.

I do have to admit, i like the way it looks, but I can get the cooler and temp guage for that price.

I feel their ad blurb contradicts itself. From their home page:

"The UltraCool motorcycle oil cooler works when cooling is needed most. The UltraCool system "CONTROLS" the oil temperature. It maintains the oil temperature within the factory recommended range of 190 degrees to 230 degrees. The cooler does this whether the motorcycle is moving or stuck in traffic."

OK-- so it maintains the oil temps between 190 and 230 degrees. Now in the last para on the page:

"Utilize a thermostatically controlled, high output fan that forces air through the oil cooler when the temperature rises above 210 degrees. It automatically turns the fan back off when the oil temperature drops below 190 degrees."

What I see here is a mismatch between the underlined sentences above. How can the fan turn off when the factory recommend temp is 190 to 230, and the fan is set to turn off below 190??

So-- unless I'm missing something or reading something into the words as written the fan will be running continuously. Not saying this is necessarily a bad thing if so-- I would just want to know if that's the case.

I think overall it's a great idea but personally I would seek clarification of the fan operating parameters from the manufacturer before purchasing.

I have the HD Premium Oil cooler on my bike and I don't see what's so great about this one that would justify a price of $450 vs. $225 for the HD.
Just my opinion.

Starting a fan at 210 degrees is just adding margin as the oil has heated and will continue to heat until the cooler can dissipate some of that heat, it would probably go to 220 before turning and dropping.

I am not as yet sold on the 'need' for it where I generally ride as I tend to be moving more than sitting and even air at 110 degrees will cool an engine back down then.

I'm thinkng that cooler might be a "snug" fit with a pair of lowers attached.

Why did they cover up the hotties on their homepage?

That sucks.

If you need one, go with the HD unit.

Called Robert Click at UltraCool yesterday to place and order, he asked me if I also was running with an oil temp gauge, yep. Hmmm, there seems to be a problem. He said the UltraCool has a probe which controls the fan that need to be in the port on the oil pan, so he is now trying to find a solution.

Now this really confused me so I sent off the below email, asked him not to send the cooler till they have a solution!

Robert,
I'm confused, the website and PDF download instructions, as well as all four trade reviews say nothing about installing a probe in the oil pan? I was under the impression; the fan switch was installed in the bypass valve provide with the unit. Has there been a change to the design, if so why?
Could you please email the current installation instructions?

Got the current installation instructions and sure enough, what is on the website is not what is being shipped now??

I'm still interest in this unit, upset what is advertised vs sent now is different, with no explaination.

Anyone have information about this??

Is there a way to have two probes in the oil??

An excellent reason not to buy from them.
