I hate Torx bolts!! The inventor should be tarred & feathered.
The two that go under near the forks.........I'm constantly dropping them when trying to re-install.
Lowe's.......(4) 1/4-20 X 3/4" socket head cap screws (black). The stockers are 5/8" but these work fine.
They stay on the allen head wrench or allen head screwdriver when you're putting them back in place.
Just sayin'.
Are you sure that you are using the right Torx wrench? Generally they work and stay on the wrench fine unless you are trying to use a T25 where a T27 is the size. Or should i say using one size under what the bolt head size is.
Good point, T-25 vs T-27. The T-27 is the size that never comes in a regular set. I have a 10" screwdriver style T-27, and it is probably my most used tool.

Could go 1 1/2 in. on the stud or at least till it bottom's out, and leave's enough thread to screw on the wing nut's.
