I've been searching and reading many, many posts here regarding replacing the stock HD a/c with either K&N, SE, Arlien Ness (to name the top ones). The one thing missing, at least in my searches, is that there doesn't seem to be any defiinitive agreement as to how much HP is gained, if any? In some magazines, I have read some guarentee xx% increase, but how the heck am I going to prove/disprove that?!

Ride long and safe everyone!
If you are changing the AF only, I don't think you will see much difference. My last four Harley's was stock when I bought them. I did the stage1 Dealer DL with SE AF and exhaust. I could tell a big difference in throttle response. as for HP increase, I've heard any where from 7 to 15 HP. I don't know for sure. Never cared, I just wanted it to run good and sound like a Harley.
Most increases are at 5000, 5500 rpm. If you live up there, go for it. Most of my riding is at 3000. The gain at 3000 or 3500 is only about 2 to 3 horsepower. I'd rather buy $1000 worth of beer, than pipes and an air cleaner and a fuel management system and gain only 3 horsepower.

More than anything the new A/C lets more air in. think of your engine as a big air pump. If you maintain the correct air to fuel ratio (AFR) as you put more air in, you can put more fuel in and result in more power or torque, usually both. As others have posted, a high flowing A/C with free flowing exhaust and the proper tune will usually add 7-11% power and torque. The key thing would be to find a good tuner WITH A DYNO and let him work his magic on it.
